Castel Mimi: one of the visiting card of Moldova – in London
The wines from one of the most beautiful wineries in the world, the visiting card of Moldova, one of the most important tourist attractions in the country and the nominee at the Wine Travel Awards Castel Mimi were presented at the London Wine Fair during the First WTA Ceremony and the three days of the exhibition at the joint Drinks+ and Wine Travel Awards Stand.
Castel Mimi was founded in 1893, renovated and opened to visitors on 17th September 2016. It is included in the Wine Road of Moldova, which is the first cultural-tourist route certified by the Council of Europe as part of ITER VITIS Les Chemins de La Vigne en Europe. The storage has a total capacity of 200.000 hectoliters. Wines are stored in stainless steel tanks with volumes of 500, 750 and 1000 hectoliters, connected to a modern cooling system that assures automatic temperature control.
The wine professionals-exhibition visitors during the three days of the LWF tasted the Animaliens Feteasca Regala, Feteasca Alba 2021, Animaliens Pinot Noir, Saperavi, Rara Neagra 2019 and Castel Mimi Cucoanele 2021 at the joint Drinks+ and WTA Stand.
Animaliens Feteasca Regala, Feteasca Alba 2021 – Feteasca Regala 50% & Feteaca Alba 50% Castel Mimi possess, 16 ha of Feteasca Albă and 8 ha of Feteasca Regala. The vineyards have an average productivity of: 8-10 tons of grapes per ha. Elevation: 28 meters above sea level. Orientation: South, South-East. Location: near Speia village, on the right bank of Dniestr River, Codru winemaking region. An attractive blend that will win you over with notes of acacia flowers, gooseberries and pomelo. Easy to drink thanks to its fresh and fruity taste and beautiful mineralit.
Lable: The owl is a frequent guest at Castel Mimi and is represented on the winery’s coat of arms. In winter time this graceful bird protects our vineyards by hunting small rodents that otherwise could seriously damage the vine stocks. The symbol of the owl expresses freedom, wisdom, and loyalty.
Animaliens Pinot Noir, Saperavi, Rara Neagra 2019 – Pinot Noir 60%, Saperavi 20%, Rara Neagra 20%. Castel Mimi possess 4,5 ha of Pinot Noir, 7 ha of Saperavi and 5 ha of Rara Neagra. The vineyards have an average productivity of 6-8 tons of grapes per ha. Elevation: 25-30 meters above sea level. Orientation: South, South-East. Location: near Speia village, on the right bank of Dniestr River, Codru winemaking region.
A delicate red blend, born from the fusion of three legendary red varietals: Pinot Noir, Saperavi and Rara Neagra. The intense ruby colour reflects the juicy flavours of mulberries, blackberries, and sour cherry, beautifully outlined by mildly spicy tannins.
Lable: The Bison has a special place among national heraldic symbols being the coat of arms on the historical Moldovan flag. This symbol reflects dignity, sacrifice and patriotism.
Castel Mimi Cucoanele 2021. Cucoanele – the word used by Moldovan folk to call the wives of noble men of Bessarabia. Due to their pompous outfits and foreign origins, the nobility of Bessarabia was often perceived by the native population as aliens. This wine is a blend of Riesling and Pinot Gris, two of the most elegant international varieties, which alike the bourjois of Bessrabia managed to find their second home on Moldovan soil. Castel Mimi possess 5 ha of Pinot Gris and 10 ha of Riesling. The vineyards have an average productivity of 6-8 tons of grapes per ha. Elevation: 25 meters above sea level. Orientation: South, South-East. Location: near Speia village, on the right bank of Dniestr River, Codru winemaking region. A lite and elegant wine that expresses citrus flavors at the beginning. Gradually peach notes are opening up, followed by citrus notes and an invigorating acidity.

Castel Mimi Isterie 2018. Isterie pays tribute to the creative spirit of the winemaker, who, like an artist, is constantly searching for balance between the elements that make up his work. The 7 rhombs on the label refer to the number of varieties used in this blend, which are in perfect harmony with each other. Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot 5%, Malbec 5%, Pinot Noir 5%, Saperavi 5%, Feteasca Neagră 5%, Rara Neagră 5%. 6 months in French Oak Barrels – 225 L. Radoux, Medium Toased. Castel Mimi possess 48 ha of Cabernet Sauvignon, 26 ha of Merlot, 4 ha of Malbec, 4,5 ha of Pinot Noir, 7 ha of Saperavi, 11 ha of Feteasca Neagră, and 5 ha of Rara Neagră. The vineyards have an average productivity of 6-8 tons of grapes per ha. Elevation: 21-32 meters above sea level. Orientation: South, South-East. Location: near Speia village, on the right bank of Dniestr River, Codru winemaking region. A powerful bouquet that will seduce the taster with flavors of ripe plums, wild cherries and rainbow pinks. Taste wise, the wine offers notes of mulberries, blackberries and licorice. The body is full, with spicy tannins, balanced by a nice acidity.
Castel Mimi Rosu de Bulboaca 2018. The iconogram on the label is a fragment from the first letter of Mimi’s own name that can be found in the logo of the winery. Limited edition, 12 months in French Oak Barrels, 225 L. Radoux, Medium Toased. Cabernet Sauvignon 50%, Merlot 30%, Malbec 20%. Castel Mimi possess 48 ha of Cabernet Sauvingnon, 26 ha of Merlot, and 4 ha of Malbec. The vineyards have an average productivity of 6-8 tons of grapes per ha. Elevation: 25-30 meters above sea level. Orientation: South, South-East. Location: near Speia village, on the right bank of Dniestr River, Codru winemaking region. An incomparable blend. The wine has a ruby color with charming purple reflections. While having a floral bouquet, the wine opens with notes of plums followed by cinnamon and other spices.
Castel Mimi Rose de Bulboaca 2021. The iconogram on the label is taken from traditional Moldovan carpets. It represents a vine stock, as a testimony of the long lasting winemaking tradition of Moldovan land. Castel Mimi possess 7 ha of Pinot Noir and 26 ha of Merlot. The vineyards have an average productivity of 6-8 tons of grapes per ha. Elevation: 25-30 meters above sea level. Orientation: South, South-East. Location: near Speia village, on the right bank of Dniestr River, Codru winemaking region. An elegant wine with floral aromas. It brings a soft and delicate taste of red forest fruits and fresh notes of citrus towards the aftertaste. The body is round with a crispy structure. Beautiful and invigorating acidity.
