Due to our partnership the Gérard Basset Foundation and thanks to the personal consent of Monsieur Basset’s family – Nina Basset, WTA judge, and her son Romane Basset, this year the WTA winner of the Ambassador of the Year category will also be awarded with the Gérard Basset Prize “Ambassador of the Year”.

It is a reflection of the victory over the challenges that stand in the way of a person and clearly proves that everyone is able to reach the top in any, even the most difficult, circumstances. The Gérard Basset Foundation which supports the Wine Travel Awards in the Ambassador nomination joyfully discloses the allocation of funding for eighteen novel grants, recognizing Grantees situated in 11 distinct countries spanning 5 continents.
In a momentous tribute to the extraordinary dedication and unyielding passion within the wine industry, Nicolas Clerc has been bestowed with the highly coveted Gérard Basset award.
On July 6, the Wine Travel Awards (WTA) team gathered the award and voting winners, the jury representatives as well as the most active nominees, in a webinar led by Romané Basset, Co-Founding Trustee of the Gérard Basset Foundation, set up to honour the legacy and memory of Gérard Basset.
From 7th to 12th February 2023, the attention of the whole wine world has been drawn to 68 candidates representing 65 countries and competing for the title of the Best Sommelier of the World. To support young sommeliers, the WTA team invites them to join the Ambassador nomination and get a chance to win the Gérard Basset Prize “Ambassador of the Year”.
Prepare for an exceptional event at the forthcoming Wine Travel Awards Ceremony! Scheduled for May 21st at Olympia, London, immediately following the London Open announcement, the ceremony will commence promptly at 10:30 and conclude at 12:30.
Recently, the Incubator of Bernard Magrez hosted a very special event – a conference and business networking event Big Mentor Day, headlined by the famous wine critic and journalist Jane Anson (the UK) and the modernist and very talented winemaker Loic Pasquet (France). Very open-minded bright person – Lady Jane Anson warmly prized our representative with her time and attention and gave an unexpected opportunity for an interesting conversation during the conference break for lunch.
