Piemonte: viticulture with passion and reverence for the native land

Italy

Located in northwestern Italy, Piemonte is renowned for its beauty, culinary traditions, and outstanding wines. This region, surrounded by the Alps, attracts tourists with picturesque landscapes and ancient culture. However, perhaps the greatest gem of Piedmont is its wineries, which delight true connoisseurs and wine lovers.

Piemonte holds a prestigious place among Italy’s most renowned wine regions. This area is famous for its unique grape varieties such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Arneis. The vineyards are spread across the slopes of the Alps and the Apennines, giving Piemonte wines a distinctive taste and aroma. It is worth noting that the UNESCO committee has inscribed the Vineyard Landscapes of Piedmont onto the World Heritage List.

To admire the beauty of the picturesque hills and vineyards of Piemonte, it’s best to view them from the height of Torre dei Contini, a nominee for the WTA’s Must Visit category. This ancient tower in Canelli, which once marked the town’s boundaries, is located at a panoramic point in the village of Santa Liberata. The tower can be easily reached via a small road that passes through Moscato Bianco vineyards. From the tower, which can be climbed via spiral stairs, a charming panorama unfolds, overlooking the vineyards with the Alps on one side and the Ligurian Apennines on the other.

Cascina Castlèt is one of Piemont’s most famous wineries and a member of the WTA community in the Must Visit category. The Garnier family, behind this winery, has a long history of winemaking. Cascina Castlèt’s wines combine dedication to traditions and innovations, experience, and art. Each wine that comes out of the cellars of this winery has its own story, its own uniqueness, which will impress even the most discerning connoisseurs. And it is quite natural that recently Magnum di Barbera d’Asti was presented to Pope Francis as a gift.

Another gem of Piemonte is Azienda Agricola Cavallero – a nominee in the Must Visit category. It is one of the few wineries in the region located between Cuneo Lange and Asti Lange. The vineyards, situated on steep hills, are a peculiar exception in the local landscape. On one side, there are meadows stretching beyond the vineyards, and on the other side, there are forests and walnut groves, providing the wines with a unique taste.

In March of this year, the vineyards received SQNPI certification (National Quality System of Integrated Production). The certification confirmed the correctness of our path towards the sustainability and quality of our vineyards, with respect for the environment and our land, proudly noted the owners of Azienda Agricola Cavallero.

Azienda BAVA is a Piemonte winery that has attracted the attention of the WTA team primarily for its smart ecological approach to all processes in all areas of production and unique offers for guests. Roberto Bava has created dozens of menus for his legendary wine dinners, which have impressed gourmets on five continents. That’s why Azienda BAVA has been nominated in two categories: Progressive Approach and Must Visit.

2024 was an important milestone for l’Associazione Produttori del Nizza, of which Azienda BAVA is a member, as the association celebrated its tenth anniversary!

To tell and share their achievements with all the workers in the sector, the Forum Nice in Tour initiative is launching. Azienda BAVA will conduct a series of masterclasses on Pianoalto Nizza DOCG 2019 and Pianoalto Nizza DOCG 2016.
