Jacky Blisson, a nominee for WTA, has become a Bourgogne Wine Official Ambassador

Canada

Jacky Blisson, an independent wine educator, writer, and consultant with over two decades of experience in the wine trade, has become one of the nine new ambassadors of Burgundy wines in Canada. As the first Master of Wine in Québec (Ms Blisson pursued a Specialized Master’s degree in Wine Science in Beaune, France), Jacky brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to promote the renowned wines of Burgundy.

During her time in Europe, Jacky travelled extensively, tasting wines and completing winemaking harvest seasons in Burgundy and South Africa. She also managed export sales for a Burgundian wine agency and a Southern Rhône winery. Back in Canada, Jacky built a solid reputation for her written and video wine education content, as well as consultancy work. She hosts a YouTube wine education channel, a wine review website and serves as a judge for the National Wine Awards of Canada.

Recently, the Bourgogne Wine Board (BIVB) welcomed nine new ambassadors, including Jacky, after an extensive selection process. Out of over 100 candidates from around the world, 9 were selected to participate in a comprehensive training program, which included visits to vineyards, wine estates, meetings with wine professionals and themed tastings.

The ambassadors underwent a demanding final exam, including blind tasting and commentated tasting, to earn the title of “Official Bourgogne Wines Ambassador.” As part of a prestigious community of 67 ambassadors worldwide, they represent Bourgogne wines in their respective markets. Jacky’s role involves delivering training courses on Bourgogne wines for professionals (sommeliers, wine merchants, importers, etc.), aspiring professionals (students at hotel schools, WSET – Wine & Spirit Education Trust – centres, or those aiming for certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers), and wine enthusiasts. She will also contribute to the production of the program “Rendez-vous avec les vins de Bourgogne” and promote Bourgogne wines on the Canadian market.

The accreditation process for becoming a Bourgogne Wine Official Ambassador is rigorous, with candidates evaluated based on portfolios, general knowledge quizzes, written exams, and a week-long immersive training program. Successful candidates sign a renewable three-year contract with the BIVB.

Jacky Blisson’s appointment as a Burgundy wine ambassador in Canada marks an exciting milestone in her career and highlights her expertise in the industry. Her dedication and passion for wine will undoubtedly contribute to the promotion and appreciation of Bourgogne wines within the Canadian market.
