WTA tour to SHUMI Winery: the best way to celebrate Sommelier Day

Georgia, Kakheti, Tsinandali, New Jerusalem, or the “ancient spot”… Can you think of a better place to celebrate Sommelier Day? Also in the coolest company one can imagine! After the ceremony of awarding the WTA winners which took place in Tbilisi on June 2, members of our wonderful community chose the right place to celebrate International Sommelier Day: SHUMI Winery, the WTA winner in three nominations. 

The managers of the Drinks+ media group gladly responded to the invitation of the winery owners, gathering an outstanding group of professionals, which included:  Robert Joseph, the WTA judge, famous wine writer, winemaker and wine critic, Sofia Nikobadze, popular Georgian blogger and wine connoisseur, Yevgenia Nikolaychuk, well-known Ukrainian wine expert and businesswoman, Galina Kochubeeva, head of the representative office of the US Meat Export Federation, and Saba Kitiashvili, a well-known Georgian sommelier, Chief Sommelier of SHUMI Winery. The  D+ journalists celebrated International Sommelier Day in the company of top-notch professionals, getting to know the sparkling wines and the impressive charms of SHUMI: the wine collection, the museum of artifacts, the ampelographic collection etc. It was one of those happy moments when we realized how amazing the world of wine tourism is, and what an important role the WTA community plays in it. We are happy to raise our glasses of sparkling qvevri to the wine world!
