Porto Protocol Receives Prestigious Sustainability Award

Portugal

The Porto Protocol Foundation, a partner of the Wine Travel Awards and a participant in the Progressive Approach and Education in Enotourism categories, has recently received The Amorim Sustainability Award for an Organisation. This is one of the world’s most important awards recognising sustainability leadership in the international wine industry. It was established in 2010 by the British trade publication The Drinks Business as part of the The Drinks Business Green Awards.

Porto Protocol

The Porto Protocol is an award-winning platform that brings together proven and innovative solutions to address the effects of climate change and makes them accessible to the global wine industry. This latest recognition highlights the platform’s significant and measurable impact.

With more than 250 members across 21 countries, representing 1.2 billion litres of wine and 75,000 hectares of vineyards, the Porto Protocol Foundation, founded by Taylor’s Port in 2018, is making a substantial contribution to creating a “better wine world”. Following the expansion of its online climate discussions, the publication of the Unpacking Wine and Zero Waste Bar guides, and the launch of its science talks, The Drinks Business jury recognised the “active improvement” the platform is bringing to the drinks industry. The jury particularly praised the Foundation’s “truly impressive” work on waste and packaging, as well as the public accessibility of its resources, which provide clear added value to society.

Commenting on the award, Adrian Bridge, CEO of the Porto Protocol, said: “We are extremely pleased to receive this prestigious award. This is the result of hard work by a dedicated community made up of our staff, advisory boards, technical teams, ambassadors, and all the members and partners who share the same vision – that by sharing ideas, we can all learn and grow.”

All initiatives and resources developed by the organisation are available free of charge on the Porto Protocol website, where all activities fall within four key impact areas: Unpacking Wine, Saving Every Drop, Restoring Ecosystems, and Seeding Change.

The Wine Travel Awards warmly congratulate the Porto Protocol Foundation on this well-deserved recognition and commend its outstanding contribution to sustainability, education, and positive change in global wine tourism and the wider wine industry.
