The Wine Travel Awards (WTA) continues to expand its geographic reach, welcoming outstanding new nominees from around the world. This year, we are thrilled to witness new names eager to make their mark on the global wine tourism scene.

We have already introduced our latest nominee from Thailand – Monsoon Valley Vineyards, a pioneer shaping Thailand’s wine tradition in an industry historically dominated by European and New World regions. If you have ever wondered how Thailand is forging its own winemaking identity through innovation and dedication, take a closer look at their fascinating story here: Monsoon Valley Vineyards – Winemaking of Thailand.

Recently, we also welcomed an outstanding wine tourism destination from Mexico – Dos Búhos! This organic, family-run winery is nestled in the highlands of Mexico at an altitude of 2,000 meters. Producing handcrafted wines exclusively from estate vineyards, Dos Búhos reflects the distinctive terroir of San Miguel de Allende. Their philosophy prioritizes quality, minimal intervention, and sustainability, honoring traditional agricultural practices while using organic methods to protect the land. The winery cultivates over 15 grape varieties, showcasing their varietal character and regional identity.

Beyond winemaking, Dos Búhos integrates art, community engagement, and sustainability into its operations. They collaborate with local artists, support charitable initiatives, and embrace eco-friendly practices such as organic farming and sustainable construction.

And now, we are excited to introduce another exceptional addition – our newest nominee from Taiwan, Domain Vino Formosa!

Vino Formosa is developing unique wine tourism and educational programs centered around Taiwan’s emerging viticulture. One of their most groundbreaking innovations is Taiwan’s first deep-sea-aged wine. Take a look at this incredible underwater aging process in their video: The First Deep-Sea Aging Wine of Taiwan.

Their Vino Formosa Cuvée Marina was awarded a Gold Medal (92 points) at the Union des Oenologues Vinalies International, a concept inspired by the discovery of shipwreck-aged wine off the Baltic Sea floor, where bottles lay submerged for nearly 200 years. However, Vino Formosa is the first to develop deep-sea aging in Taiwan, refining their process with Vino Formosa Bianco, which matured for five years in oak barrels and seven months on the sea floor of the Taiwan Strait.

We also want to highlight that these wines are crafted by Chien Hao Chen, last year’s Ambassador of the Year public voting winner in the Wine Travel Awards. As a previous winner, he has once again been nominated for the new season: Chien Hao Chen – WTA Nominee.

Stay tuned for more updates and inspiring stories from these incredible new additions to the WTA community. A reminder that the WTA 2024-2025 campaign remains open for new participants until February 24. Don’t miss your chance to be the next WTA discovery and gain well-deserved recognition for your outstanding work and innovation in the world of wine tourism!
