The “Golden Ring” of Bourgogne: a journey through terroirs and masterpieces, and the Global Wine Tourism Day

France

Oleksandra Minenko-Decamps

In June – when nature is in bloom and the hills of Bourgogne are wrapped in the fragrance of flowering vines – we set off on a magical journey to the homeland of the terroir philosophy. Together with the Wine Travel Awards 2024–2025 winner in the Top Guide” category, Oleksandra Minenko-Decamps, we explore the uniqueness of the Climats, the beauty of its architecture and landscapes, and a contemporary vision of wine culture through the three new wine museums of the Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne (the Wine Travel Awards 2024–2025 winner). And – a surprise – we take part in an exclusive event for a select circle of guests: the world’s first Global Wine Tourism Day, held in Beaune.

Day 1, 17 June 2026

On this day, the new museum Cité des Climats et des Vins de Bourgogne (Beaune) will open exclusively for you – the guests of the Global Wine Tourism Day. This celebration, initiated by the Wine Travel Awards and the Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne, will take place with the support of the Comité Bourgogne. The day will conclude with the Wine Travel Awards 2025–2026 Ceremony and a gala dinner in honour of this international celebration.

Day 2, 18 June

Beaune. A morning visit to the vineyard surrounded Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune, home each autumn to the legendary charitable wine auction Hospices de Beaune.

Visits to wineries and an introduction to the celebrated Chardonnays.

A wine-filled (but not languid))) evening in Beaune.

Day 3, 19 June

Côte de Nuits. We listen to legends and taste legends.

Visits to wineries in Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romanée, where some of the world’s most prestigious and expensive wines are produced. This is also one of the largest communes of the Côte de Nuits and the realm of the most elegant Pinot Noirs. Notably, these wines were favourites of Napoleon Bonaparte, who knew a thing or two about fine wine. We shall understand why.

A visit to the headquarters of the Climats, at Clos de Vougeot, with lunch and a tasting. This is where the world championship of œufs en meurette – the signature dish of local cuisine – takes place. An evening stroll through a village officially listed among “The Most Beautiful Villages of France”. Dinner with celebrated local wines.

Day 4, 20 June

Côte Chalonnaise. A scenic drive through Rully, Mercurey, Montagny.

A stop in another of “The Most Beautiful Villages of France”.

A visit to Cité des Climats et des Vins de Bourgogne (Mâcon).

Dinner with a tasting.

Day 5, 21 June

Chablis. We go to taste the sea!

Chardonnay is grown in many places, but Chablis is made only here.

A walk through Noyers-sur-Serein. Visit to Cité des Climats et des Vins de Bourgogne (Chablis): tasting of Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru and Grand Cru. Visit to a winery. Dinner with local dishes (snails, quiche with the unique Époisses cheese, which by French law is forbidden to transport on public transport – almost like Thai durian!).

Bourgogne

Day 6, 22 June

Dijon: the gateway to Bourgogne, and one of France’s gastronomic capitals. A walk through the historic centre, a tour of the palaces of the Dukes of Bourgogne – and, of course, an aperitif on the rooftops of Dijon. Visit to La Cité Internationale de la Gastronomie et du Vin.

Gala tasting in a wine bar with a focus on Côte de Nuits.

Farewell dinner with traditional cuisine and specialities.

Day 7, 23 June

Transfer to the station.
