Gergely Szolnoki Co-Edits Major Academic Work on Wine Tourism Worldwide

A judge of the Wine Travel Awards has co-authored a major new academic publication exploring the evolving landscape of wine tourism worldwide.
Professor Gergely Szolnoki, together with Tatiana Boudzine-Chameeva, Noriaki Kawasaki, and Alejandro Juan Gennari, has co-edited the newly released book Exploring the Dynamics of Wine Tourism: Case Studies and Best Practices Around the Globe, published by De Gruyter.
In his announcement, Szolnoki shared his excitement about the release: “Excited to share our brand-new book entitled Exploring the Dynamics of Wine Tourism… With more than 20 chapters and 350 pages, the book presents great wine tourism models from around the world. Cheers!”
The volume brings together more than 20 chapters and over 350 pages of international research and case studies, offering a comprehensive overview of how wine tourism is transforming across different regions and cultural contexts.
A key focus of the publication is the strong shift toward sustainability in the wine industry. The authors highlight that wine tourism generates more than €50 billion in direct global revenue, making it a significant driver of regional economic development.
The book argues that traditional tasting-based tourism is no longer sufficient for today’s travelers. Instead, wineries are increasingly expected to develop:
- sustainable and regenerative tourism models
- digital capabilities and innovation strategies
- entrepreneurial approaches to visitor experience
- deeper engagement with local communities
By combining academic insight with practical case studies, the publication provides guidance for wineries, researchers, and tourism professionals seeking to adapt to new market realities.
This release further reinforces the role of leading industry experts in shaping the future of global wine tourism through research, education, and cross-cultural collaboration.
