DipWSET from Austrian Wine Academy: unique opportunities for the students of 2024-2025

WSET Diploma in Wines is a globally recognized professional qualification in the international wine trade and a must-do for those who are planning to enter the Masters of Wine (MW) study programme.The WSET course covers most wine countries and regions of the world and the most important wines they produce. This qualification is offered by the British Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) which has branches in more than 20 countries all around the world. 

Austrian Wine Academy, one of the most reputable international educational establishments, offers the WSET Diploma course which is special in many respects.

The program of the course makes a strong emphasis on the main Austrian and Italian wine regions through study trips to different wine growing regions. It offers a unique opportunity for participants to combine learning about international wines with practical first-hand experience in viticulture, wine tasting and winemaking. 

Another special feature of the Austrian Wine Academy’s WSET Diploma is the fact that the graduates of this course are awarded the prestigious title of a “Weinakademiker”. Upon completion of a thesis and a viva-voce exam, successful graduates are requested to sign a code of conduct and join the international Weinakademiker alumni association with more than 1000 members from 51 different countries.

The first course session in May 2024 will take place at the Weinakademie Österreich campus in Rust, a small town which is famous all over the world for its wine-related history. Austrian Wine Academy is located in the romantic setting of the historic Seehof in the centre of Rust, surrounded by several renowned wineries. This session will include study trips to Austrian wine regions that focus on international varieties in Wachau and Kamptal and on indigenous red wines and noble sweet wines in Burgenland. 

The second session in October 2024 will also be held at Weinakademie Campus in Rust. The course will be followed by an optional visit to the Palais Coburg in Vienna, home of one of the best wine cellars in the world. This part of the course will be celebrated by the annual Weinakademiker graduation ceremony at Esterházy Palace in Vienna.

Finally, the DipWSET students of Austrian Wine Academy will attend the third session due to be held in Florence in March/April 2025. After the morning program classes students will have boundless opportunities to explore Florence and the cuisine and wines of Tuscany. Study trips will also take them to other Italian wine regions. During the Florence Diploma block students will taste wines from members of Istituto Grandi Marchi. They will be invited to Antinori ́s Tignanello winery and other leading premium wineries in Tuscany. A special field trip will take them to several top wineries in Bolgheri. Cherry on top: all students of this course will be invited as VIP guests to attend the prestigious OperaWine event and Vinitaly 2025 in Verona.
