Burgundy Climats

In 2025, the Climats of Burgundy will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Throughout the year, a series of celebratory events, including exclusive tours, artistic encounters, tastings, and more, will take place to mark this important milestone.

The year-long celebration is intended to pay tribute to the rich diversity of Burgundy’s Climats, their landscapes, heritage, millennia-old history, and above all, the people whose dedication, skill, and passion form the heart of the vineyards. The anniversary program is being developed in collaboration with the local community. All residents of the region – including citizens, elected officials, professionals, associations, and enthusiasts – will have the opportunity to take part in the festivities. Through a variety of projects and large-scale events, everyone will be invited to contribute to showcasing and promoting this exceptional cultural and viticultural heritage.

“From the moment the application was submitted until today, the entire Burgundy region has acted as one. Without this unity, celebrating such an anniversary would have been unimaginable,” says Bertrand Gauvrit, Director of the Association des Climats du Vignoble de Bourgogne.

The anniversary events will take place throughout 2025, from January to December, with a total of 30 different initiatives planned.

Several celebrations have already taken place, including: Festival du Mois des Climats (May 2 – July 3); A special day dedicated to schoolchildren at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, which welcomed around 1,000 students participating in various master classes; The official anniversary celebration on July 4 – a festive and symbolic event inspired by the spirit of the “March of the Vineyards.” Participants were invited to fully immerse themselves in the UNESCO-listed vineyard landscapes through performances, concerts, tastings, and more.

And, of course, one of the highlights of this anniversary year is the futuristic Wine Museum, the Cité des Climats et Vins de Bourgogne, situated across three locations in three different cities in Burgundy. This exceptional institution was named the Wine Travel Awards 2024 – 2025 winner in the category “Education in Enotourism.”

Everyone is welcome to join the celebration, and you can even become an active part of it by proposing your own event.

The organizers also invite volunteers and patrons to contribute and participate in this dynamic year.

As part of the festivities, an International Conference will be held from December 3 to 5, 2025, in Bonn and Dijon, in partnership with the UNESCO Chair “Vineyards and Wines.” This conference will serve as a reflection on a decade of scientific and technical achievements, and a platform for sharing experiences with other UNESCO World Heritage wine sites around the globe.
