A Creator in the World of Wine and Experimentation

Ukraine

Sergiy Kovalenko is a Wine Travel Awards nominee and a winemaker who transforms his personal passion for wine into a true form of art. His projects combine classical and experimental techniques, creative boldness, and a profound understanding of terroir.

In recent years, Sergiy Kovalenko has launched a number of new initiatives. He planted four white grape varieties: Muscat Odeskyi, Citronnyi Magaracha, Solaris, and La Crescent, and has ambitious plans for the development of white wines. In addition, he began producing wine using the Ruby Port technology, while a bourbon-filled barrel, laid down last year, is being prepared for tasting in two years. Between power outages, the winemaker also prepared a distillate to be aged in a barrel for brandy production.

Pét-nat wines hold a special place in his portfolio, alongside dry red, rosé, and dessert wines. He works with both single-varietal and blended wines, creating a broad range of styles – from dry and orange wines to dessert and sparkling expressions. According to Kovalenko, all of this remains a deeply personal creative pursuit today, yet one with significant potential for future development.

KSV House of Wine winery, led by Sergiy Kovalenko, has already gained international recognition. On September 20, 2025, as the winner of the 10th All-Ukrainian Tasting Competition, he was invited to take part in a professional blind tasting of Ukrainian wines alongside international wines and spirits from France, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, Uruguay, Georgia, the Netherlands, Germany, and Austria. The wines of KSV House of Wine received high scores, and the 2023 Saperavi-Merlot outperformed international samples.

As Mr. Kovalenko says, “the creative process continues.” On May 1, 2025, he filled a barrel with double-distilled grain spirit and hopes to open it himself in two years, completing yet another chapter of his winemaking journey. For Sergiy Kovalenko, each project is a synthesis of love for wine, experimentation, and a deep respect for tradition – an approach that makes his work a genuine source of inspiration for wine enthusiasts worldwide.
