Nico Lazaridi Marks 35 Years of Magic Mountain and Enters a New Chapter
Greek winery Nico Lazaridi is celebrating the 35th anniversary of its iconic Magic Mountain wine in 2026.
The anniversary has become one of the occasions for public discussion about the company’s future and the development of Greek viticulture. At an event in Athens in March, Federico Lazaridis, Chairman and CEO of Nico Lazaridi, highlighted the importance of preserving Greece’s vineyards and pointed to the risks associated with the continued reduction of vineyard areas.

Nico Lazaridi was among the winners of the public vote in the 2025–2026 Wine Travel Awards campaign and was also honoured with the prestigious Drinks+ Editor`s Choice medal. The recognition highlights the winery’s appeal to the Wine Travel Awards audience and its presence in the international wine tourism community.
In 2026, Nico Lazaridi is also continuing to develop wine tourism and introduce visitors to modern Greek winemaking. As part of Dramoinognosia 2026, held in Drama in May, Château Nico Lazaridi opened its winery to visitors, offering tours and tastings. A separate programme focused on the development of Greek grape varieties and was led by Federica Lazaridis, the company’s oenologist and Marketing Director.
One of the winery’s new directions is its work with amphorae. Nico Lazaridi Project Amphora Assyrtiko, made from the Assyrtiko grape variety in Drama, has 2023 as its first vintage. According to Vivino, this vintage marked the first time Nico Lazaridi used a clay amphora. The wine was presented at Wine Fair 2026.

Today, Nico Lazaridi produces more than 1.3 million bottles of wine annually and exports its wines to 21 countries. In the Agora area, the winery has 80 hectares of vineyards, including 65 hectares of its own vineyards.
In July 2026, regional media also reported on the scale of the estate: Château Nico Lazaridi has 650 stremmas of its own vineyards, produces more than 1.1 million bottles annually, and exports account for around 30% of the winery’s sales.

Thus, 2026 brings together several important developments for Nico Lazaridi – the anniversary of Magic Mountain, the continued development of wine tourism, experiments with traditional winemaking methods, and a new stage in the company’s management – against the backdrop of the continued development of one of Drama’s notable wineries.
