Le Comptoir du Bénaton Opens at Château du Clos de Vougeot

This summer, Château du Clos de Vougeot, one of Burgundy’s most renowned historic wine landmarks, has opened Le Comptoir du Bénaton, a new dining space for visitors. The new light dining concept allows guests to extend their exploration of the region’s winemaking heritage with a gourmet break in the heart of the château.
The château is also associated with one of the winners of the Wine Travel Awards 2025–2026. The Worldwide Œufs en Meurette Championship, hosted annually at Château du Clos de Vougeot, won in the Enogastronomic Events / Magnet of the Region category. Dedicated to Burgundy’s emblematic œufs en meurette, the international culinary competition has been held at the château for five consecutive years and has become a globally recognised gastronomic event, bringing together leading chefs, gastronomy experts and international media.

Located among the château’s historic wine presses, Le Comptoir du Bénaton offers a menu built around seasonal local produce. Visitors can enjoy generous sharing boards featuring cheeses, cured meats and other regional specialties, paired with Tastevinage award-winning wines and a selection of desserts.
The concept was created by Chef Alexandra Bouvret. According to the project team, the menu is designed to make Burgundy’s gastronomic heritage accessible to a wide audience while highlighting the authenticity of local products and traditions.
The menu has been developed in collaboration with local producers and artisans, including Ferme Fruirouge in Concœur, renowned for its red berry specialties, and Vincent Ballot, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France master coffee roaster based in Haute-Saône.

The name Le Comptoir du Bénaton pays tribute to the Porteur de Bénaton sculpture located in the château courtyard. The bénaton is a traditional wicker harvesting basket carried on the shoulder by grape pickers and remains one of the enduring symbols of Burgundy’s vineyard traditions and winemaking heritage.
Le Comptoir du Bénaton welcomes visitors every day during the château’s opening hours.
This summer, visitors to Château du Clos de Vougeot can also discover the exhibition “Brillat-Savarin or the Birth of Gastronomy”, marking the bicentenary of the publication of Physiologie du goût (The Physiology of Taste) and commemorating the 200th anniversary of the death of the French gastronome Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin.
