Kjell-Gabriel Hendrichs: Curating Wine Journeys Beyond the Ordinary
In the 5th anniversary edition of the Wine Travel Awards, the geography of nominees expanded, welcoming outstanding wine professionals from Norway. Among them is Kjell-Gabriel Hendrichs, a figure redefining what it means to explore wine through immersive, story-driven journeys.
A respected Norwegian wine journalist and historian, Hendrichs has built a unique platform that takes wine lovers far beyond traditional tastings – into experiences that combine education, culture, and unforgettable emotions.
Since 2019, Hendrichs has been guiding carefully curated wine trips designed to combine education, culture, and unforgettable emotions. What began with explorations of Piedmont – where guests discovered the landscapes of Barolo alongside its legendary truffles – has grown into an expanding geography of wine travel.
Today, his itineraries span some of the most prestigious regions of Europe and beyond: from Tuscany and Veneto to Jura and the Rhône Valley, from Germany’s Pfalz and Rheinhessen to Portugal’s Douro Valley. Each year, he introduces new destinations – most recently expanding into Rioja and San Sebastián in Spain – continuously widening the horizons of Norwegian wine enthusiasts.
But Hendrichs goes further than routes. His background in media and entertainment allows him to craft experiences where wine becomes part of a larger cultural narrative. Opera evenings in Verona, Michelin-level gastronomy, and even safari adventures in South Africa transform his tours into multidimensional journeys where wine, food, and culture exist in perfect balance.
What truly sets him apart is access. Thanks to his reputation and deep connections within the wine world, participants often gain entry to wineries, cellars, and rare tastings not available to the general public. As a trained historian, Hendrichs enriches every destination with context – turning each trip into a deeper understanding of terroir, heritage, and tradition.
Today, he organizes up to eight wine journeys annually, alongside lectures and tastings in Norway – with many of his trips selling out quickly, reflecting growing demand for meaningful, experience-driven wine travel.
Kjell-Gabriel Hendrichs represents a new type of wine guide: not just a leader, but a curator of culture, a storyteller, and a creator of unforgettable wine experiences.
