Ukraine/Portugal

Ukrainian winery Chateau Chizay, which became a winner of the 5th Anniversary Edition of the Wine Travel Awards 2025–2026 in the category The Visiting Card of the Country/Brand – the Visiting Card of the Country, continues to actively develop environmental initiatives and implement the principles of sustainable development.

Chateau Chizay became the first winery in Ukraine to sign the Porto Protocol, an international climate initiative of the wine industry that brings together wine producers, experts, and researchers to seek solutions in the field of ecology and adaptation to climate change.

The Company plans to expand environmental practices both in its daily work in the vineyards, production facilities, and office, as well as at the level of public activity. In particular, this includes promoting the ideas of environmental preservation in Transcarpathia among businesses, agricultural enterprises, wineries, and local communities.

Among the key environmental directions of Chateau Chizay are the gradual transition to electric transport, the development of solar energy use, the reduction of paper workflow, waste sorting, and information campaigns against the burning of dry grass and plastic pollution.

The Company emphasizes that sustainable development and care for the environment of Transcarpathia are among the priorities of its long-term strategy.

Recently, the Porto Protocol presented the large-scale report Saving Every Drop in Wine: Global Insights and Solutions from the Porto Protocol Community, dedicated to the issue of water resources in winemaking. The report combines scientific research, practical experience of wineries, and real solutions for effective water management in the context of climate change.
