Champagne Joseph Perrier: A New Spotlight After Its Wine Travel Awards Victory

France

Some Champagne houses rise through spectacle; others through quiet, consistent excellence. Joseph Perrier, founded in 1825 in Châlons‑en‑Champagne, has long belonged to the latter category. This year, however, the house stepped confidently into the international spotlight: its first‑ever nomination for the Wine Travel Awards – and an immediate win in the public vote. A recognition that feels perfectly timed.

With summer underway, Joseph Perrier now opens the most vibrant part of its 2026 events calendar, inviting visitors to experience Champagne through culture, gastronomy and heritage.

Events from July Onward

July. Garden Parties & Mixology

The season begins with Yellow Garden Party #2, an evening of Champagne, music and open‑air conviviality in the estate’s luminous gardens. Later in the month, a Mixology Masterclass explores the art of measurement – a theme that mirrors the precision of the house’s own winemaking.

August. The Final Summer Garden Party

On 1 August, Joseph Perrier hosts Yellow Garden Party #3, closing the summer series with Champagne pairings, live music and the unmistakable atmosphere of the 1825 estate.

September. Parcellaires & the Cochelet

Early autumn brings a Masterclass dedicated to the Parcellaires collection, offering a rare opportunity to explore single‑parcel expressions. On 27 September, the house celebrates the end of harvest with its traditional Cochelet – rustic flavours, seasonal dishes and Joseph Perrier’s emblematic cuvées.

October. Champagne Day

October features Champagne Day, with evening cellar tours and a Champagne bar – a relaxed celebration of the region’s identity.

December. The Joseph Perrier Chalet

The year concludes on 5 December with the Joseph Perrier Chalet, a winter evening of raclette and Champagne.

Permanent Tours: UNESCO Heritage, Pasteur’s Science, and a Family Saga

Beyond its seasonal events, Joseph Perrier offers year‑round tours that reveal one of Champagne’s most intellectually compelling stories.

UNESCO‑listed Gallo‑Roman Cellars

Visitors begin in the 4th‑century underground galleries, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Carved directly into the chalk hillside, these cellars stretch over five kilometres, providing naturally perfect aging conditions – stable humidity, cool temperatures, and deep silence. Every stone carries the imprint of centuries of craftsmanship. The tour continues into the archive room, where historical artefacts trace the estate’s evolution from the 19th century to today.

A Family Story Shaped by Science and Royal Recognition

Since 1825, six generations have guided the house. One of its most remarkable chapters is its collaboration with Louis Pasteur, contributing to the scientific foundations of modern fermentation.

Joseph Perrier’s reputation grew steadily, earning the honour of serving its Champagne to the English court under Queen Victoria – a testament to the finesse of its cuvées.

The Champagne Method, Explained with Clarity

The tour offers a precise, accessible explanation of the traditional method:

  • careful grape selection at harvest
  • gentle pressing
  • first fermentation
  • second fermentation in bottle
  • years of aging in the Gallo‑Roman cellars
  • disgorgement, dosage and final preparation
