Antonio Arrighi Leads Elba’s Winemakers in a New Chapter for a Legendary Family Estate
One of the most renowned wineries on the island of Elba – Azienda Agricola Arrighi – began 2026 with a major milestone. In February, the estate’s owner, Antonio Arrighi, was unanimously elected President of the Elba Wine Consortium, which brings together 19 producers and represents an annual output of approximately 500,000 bottles of wine. Among the new leadership’s key priorities are the international promotion of Elba wines and further strengthening the region’s reputation on global markets.
Azienda Agricola Arrighi was also nominated and selected as a winner in the public voting of the Wine Travel Awards 2025–2026 in the category “Brand – the Visiting Card of the Country,” confirming its status as one of the most prominent ambassadors of wine tourism and wine culture in Italy.
For the estate itself, this recognition is a natural continuation of decades of dedicated work. The Arrighi family has been involved in viticulture on the island for more than a century. Today, the winery owns approximately 15 hectares of land, of which around 8 hectares are planted with vineyards arranged in an amphitheater-like formation overlooking the bay of Porto Azzurro.
Azienda Agricola Arrighi is widely regarded as one of Tuscany’s most innovative wine projects. It was here that experiments began with aging wines in terracotta amphorae, as well as the famous “Nesos” project – a “sea wine” inspired by ancient Greek winemaking techniques. This remains one of the most distinctive and experimental wine projects in Italy in recent years, becoming a hallmark of the estate.
Today, Antonio Arrighi works alongside the new generation of his family. His daughter Giulia is involved in production and oenological projects, while Ilaria oversees marketing and communications. In this way, the family business is steadily preparing for a generational transition in winemaking leadership.
The philosophy of Arrighi remains unchanged: deep respect for nature, preservation of Elba’s indigenous grape varieties, and a constant search for new ways to express terroir. It is this combination of tradition, scientific approach, and bold experimentation that has allowed a small island winery to become one of the most recognizable wine estates in modern Italy.
