Our wines tell stories….

The Tóth Ferenc Winery was established in 1983, one of the oldest family owned wineries in the Eger Wine Region. Through generations, young and old members of the winemaker family work together passionately to bring forward the good reputation of the winery and the wines of Eger.

From oenologist Ferenc Tóth (Uncle Feri), born and raised in Eger, all kinds of things come to our mind. Strength, dynamism, perseverance, the respect and worship of grapes and nature, the smirk under the moustache… these are the main features of Ferenc Tóth, the founder of our winery. Passionate oenologist, the ambassador of kadarka grape, creator of the wine called “Várvédő” (the name meaning “defender of the Castle”) and the owner of many dignified awards and prizes such as Eger’s Wine Maker in 2012, Tibor Gál Memorial Prize, Pannon Bormíves Guild Member and the Hungarian Golden Cross of Merit.  In recognition of his work, in 2018 he was elected “The viticulturist of the Year in Eger 2017”.

Our aim is to preserve the old, traditional taste and flavour palate of Eger and to combine the most modern technologies with the traditional ones. This heritage is a treasure for us.  Producing the highest quality wines especially from Leányka, Kadarka and Kékfrankos local grapes and the two iconic, traditional blends of the region, Egri Csillag and Egri Bikavér wines in different quality levels are the most important goals. The estate and our winery is characterised by the fact that we do everything from grape planting to wine bottling, so we keep the whole process under our control.

This heritage is a treasure for us

Our aim is to preserve the old, traditional taste and flavour palate of Eger and to combine the most modern technologies with the traditional ones. Producing the highest quality wines especially from Leányka, Kadarka and Kékfrankos local grapes and the two iconic, traditional blends of the region, Egri Csillag and Egri Bikavér wines in different quality levels are the most important goals. The family estate: a new generation is on it!

Ferenc Tóth has been married to his wife for 50 years who gives strength and supports him. They started their journey together into the world of grape and wine and built up the family estate together, hand in hand. Thanks to his incredible experience (more than 60 harvests!), today the winery consists of nearly 30 hectares of vineyards in the best slopes of Eger such as Síkhegy and Almagyar Crues, excellent areas that create the possibility of producing high quality wines.

In 2005 a new generation joined the farm, the daughter and son-in-law of Ferenc Tóth. Throughout the following years, besides many investments and developments, Katalin has continuously taken over the operative management of the winery, and now with Uncle Feri and 12 permanent employees they manage together all the work of the winery. Hopefully the grandchildren are going to take over the cellar key one day and continue his grandparents’ and parents’ path.

We started from afar and are still far away from the end of the road we are taking, but we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. One thing that we can certainly write about ourselves is: we are a FAMILY WINERY that works hard every day with the aim to create beautiful, quality wines. What does the FAMILY indicative mean to us? It means the founder, the company manager, the owners of the vineyards and the winery, but most importantly, it means independence, with all the VALUES and LIABILITY involved. We are proud of our success but at the same time we are humble and grateful, we take the responsibility, and the rest of the story should “be told by the wine …”

Our achievements and awards

We are very proud of receiving the honour and award as ‘the most beautiful Wine Estate, middle-size category’ given by one of the most prestigious Hungarian Wine magazines, Bor és Piac. The competition had more testing rounds, inspecting the cellar, offices, barrels, cleanliness, vineyards, wine quality and packaging.

Our Egri Leányka Superior 2016 became The White Wine Winner of the 3rd Hungarian Grand Prix 2018. In words, we produced the best white wine of Hungary!

We have sent our wines to several national and international wine competitions for many years.
