Two Decades of Wine Mastery
Tomasz Prange-Barczyński is a renowned wine critic, editor, and writer. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of “Ferment. Pismo o winie” and contributes to www.winicjatywa.pl. He also hosts a weekly wine broadcast on Radio 357. Active in the wine community since 1998, he has held roles such as creator and Editor-in-Chief of Magazyn Wino for 12 years, and contributed to Radio PIN, Playboy, Newsweek, Voyage, and Marie Claire.
Among his books are “Riesling & Tapas” (Pascal, 2023), “Italy. Guide to The Wines, Regions, Varieties” (co-authored with Wojciech Bońkowski; Ferment, 2022), “World on The Wine Paths” (Pascal, 2020), and “Europe on The Wine Paths” (Pascal, 2019; Magellan Prize 2021 for The Best Culinary Guide; Book of The Year Silver Medal by spirits.com.pl). His other works include “Guide to the Wines of Portugal” (2017) and “Profession: Sommelier” (2007). He has contributed to two editions of the “Polish Wine Guide” (2024, 2021).
He has produced several TV documentaries, including “Wine. The Manual” (2009) and “California in a Bottle” (2010), and has translated numerous wine and spirits books into Polish, such as “Wines of the World,” “Le Vin en 80 Questions,” “La Dégustation,” and “Whisky.”
International Wine Judge and Educator
He is a judge in several international wine competitions including Mundus Vini, GROW, Balkan International, Open Balkans, Polish Corks, Best of Riesling, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, Pannonhalmi Bormustra, Danube Wine Challenge, Hungarian National Wine Contest, Wines of Moldova, International Wine Contest Bucharest, Vinitaly, and many others. In 2019, he was honored in the Bundestag, Berlin, by the German Wine Institute with the title of “Riesling Fellow” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the German Riesling category. Since 2022, he has served as an educator at the German Wine Academy.
Passion for Tourism
Besides his passion for the world of wine, Tomasz writes about traveling with a special focus on skiing and bicycle touring. He has published several articles on these topics in Polish travel magazines such as Voyage, and in opinion magazines like Newsweek, Wprost, and Playboy. In addition, he authored the book “Skiing: Sport for Everybody” in 2005 and was honored with the Croatian “Golden Pen Top Journalist Award” in 2011 for his outstanding contributions to journalism.
In his latest book (2024), “Riesling and Tapas: About Unusual Combinations of Food and Wine on the Routes of Europe,” Tomasz Prange-Barczyński explores unique food and wine pairings discovered during his extensive European travels.
