Tenute SalvaTerra #145
A Timeless Estate in the Heart of Valpolicella Classico
In one of the most prestigious wine-growing regions – the Valpolicella Classico zone – lies the charming Tenute SalvaTerra estate, featuring a luxurious villa transformed into an upscale hotel, an antique park, meticulously maintained vineyards, and a wide range of exquisite wines. So Tenute SalvaTerra is located in Cengia, a lovely village in San Pietro in Cariano. The estate is set in Villa Giona, built by the Veronese family of Jewish origin, the villa dates back to the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Initially constructed as a fortress house to protect the estate, it was later expanded into a lavish summer residence. Take a stroll through the villa’s charming garden, with its pond, lemon grove, box hedges, and tall trees, and you’ll feel the timeless beauty of a place that once represented both elegance and refined living.
Tenute SalvaTerra was founded by the Furia brothers and is a winemaking project run not only by the heirs of the Furia family business, but also by a group of entrepreneurial investors involved in winemaking.
Soil, stone, iron...
The SalvaTerra logo is inspired by three key elements from the region: soil, rock, and iron. The soil here has a marl base, providing natural irrigation that helps our vineyards thrive. The prun rock used in the construction of Verona’s Roman Arena adds a historical touch to the landscape. Iron symbolizes craftsmanship, reflecting the skill of the artisans who work with it today. It’s also central to Tenute SalvaTerra’s identity, which draws from the old Norwegian tradition of branding, where “brander” was used to mark cattle and signify ownership.
A Vast Winemaking Legacy Across Veneto
Spanning 600 hectares of vineyards, SalvaTerra’s territorial holdings stretch across the Veneto region, from the picturesque shores of Lake Garda to the volcanic slopes of the Euganean Hills. At the heart of Salvaterra’s winemaking excellence are eight distinguished estates: Tenuta di Prun, Tenuta Villa Giona, Tenuta di Mezzane, Tenuta di Cazzano di Tramigna, Tenuta di Montorio, Tenuta di San Martino Buon Albergo, Tenuta di Oliosi, Tenuta di Vescovana.
The estates in San Floriano and Grezzane play a crucial role in the appassimento process, with a capacity of approximately 2 million kg of grapes. Winemaking takes place in Valgatara (for all varieties) and Gambellara (exclusively for Glera), where the cellars accommodate up to 70,000 hectoliters of wine. Additionally, Valgatara is home to Salvaterra’s wine laboratory, barrel aging facilities, and stainless steel storage tanks, ensuring precision and excellence in every bottle.
