Learning Through Living

At Spier, learning is rooted in experience. The farm serves as a living classroom, inviting visitors to witness regenerative farming and biodiversity restoration not as abstract ideas, but as practices unfolding in real time across the landscape.

Shaped by decades of attentive stewardship, Spier shares its knowledge of soil health, ethical supply chains and responsible agriculture through open, tangible experiences. Guided walks, tastings and thoughtfully curated food encounters offer accessible ways to trace the connection between choices made in the vineyard and their impact on flavour, community and the wider environment.

Each visit becomes an opportunity for shared discovery – a chance to deepen understanding, foster connection and leave inspired by the possibilities of working in harmony with nature.

A Landscape of Experiences

Spier offers more than wine tasting. Guests can explore our gardens, art spaces and rewilded landscapes, or join Segway tours through the vineyards. Families enjoy the Elemental Play Garden, while food lovers harvest seasonal produce in the Open Food Garden.

Our hotel and wellness spaces provide a calm setting for reflection. Each experience is designed to spark curiosity about nature, craft and regeneration.

Sharing Knowledge Beyond the Farm

Education at Spier extends to the wider wine community. We host students and lecturers for practical learning during harvest and collaborate with organisations such as the Pinotage Youth Development Academy, Elsenburg Agricultural Training Institute and Stellenbosch University. These partnerships help young people gain skills and create pathways into the industry.

Commitments That Matter

The journey at Spier is far from perfect, yet it is guided by a clear commitment to learning, adapting and improving every day. Progress is approached as an ongoing process, shaped by reflection, experience and long-term perspective.

Caring for the land – and for the people who depend on it – lies at the heart of what Spier does. This commitment is expressed through practical actions, including restoring biodiversity along the Eerste River, reducing waste across operations, and supporting local communities through skills development, fair partnerships and meaningful collaboration. Together, these efforts contribute to a more responsible and resilient future.
