A new spot on the wine events map
Odessa Wine Week is a new but extremely promising player among the wine events of Eastern Europe. Odessa Wine Week was first held in 2021. It develops as a regular annual event. Participants of the event are experts in the wine industry, scientists, government officials, national and foreign wine associations, tourism industry, producers of wine-related products and technologies, marketers, wine experts, journalists. Audience consists of representatives of the professional wine community, HoReCa, retail; wine enthusiasts; mass audience (residents of the region, tourists).
The mission of the wine event
Odessa Wine Week unites the efforts of the Ukrainian wine community aimed at the development of the wine market of Ukraine and enogastronomic tourism, the dissemination of knowledge, the development of wine and gastronomic culture, the creation of interregional and international relations, the promotion of the brand “Ukrainian wine”, the integration of Ukraine into the world wine community. Odessa is the main sea gate of Ukraine, a city with unique cultural traditions, including in the field of winemaking and gastronomy.
2021: the Odessa Wine Week’s debut
87 speakers from 18 countries (from Austria to Japan) took part in 15 massive wine events. During Odessa Wine Week, the following events took place: the All-Ukrainian tasting competition “Odessa Wine & Spirit Awards”, conference “Innovative tools in viticulture in climate change” ⁃ International Symposium OENOVITI International Network 2021, the author’s tasting from the OWW guest – Vinos de La Luz for HoReCa and retail representatives, Wine Future Forum, circular tasting from OWW partners and participants; expositions: from corkscrews from the collection of sculptor Andrei Lyubov or photographs – from co-author of the Blue Bird tour, Alexander Baron, to tractors; Project “Best Riedel glass for Odessa Black variety” – selection of the optimal Riedel glass for local wine Odessa Black; conference “Wine and gastronomic tourism – a driver of development of tourist destinations”; “Air Tasting” – an air trip with a tasting on board the plane of the 5 best Ukrainian wines and dishes of Odessa cuisine; XI gastronomic festival “Yes, delicious” for a mass audience of visitors – residents of the region and tourists.
There is also good news for winemakers, for example, the prospects and future of the Odessa Black variety, the protagonist of the Odessa Wine Week, which is drunk instead of water in every house in sunny Bessarabia.
For Odessa Black, Ukrainian experts selected a Riedel – The Wine Glass Company demonstrating the best qualities of wine (for those who want to buy – glass article 6884/0 Performance collection). This is the first Ukrainian wine that received a special glass!
In the evening, already in Kyiv, I was sitting on the terrace of a cozy restaurant and could not stop talking about Odessa Wine Week… I would like to thank once again the organizers who made the breathtaking project, not only useful, but also very beautiful and aesthetically appealing. This week was decisive for Ukrainian winemaking – both the Odessa Black variety was included in the context of international varieties thanks to Riedel – The Wine Glass Company, and Ukrainian decent wines were raised by Fly UIA, and a lot of useful information was gained thanks to cool speakers. Thank you again for setting such a high standard for the wine event.
