Lotte Peplow – Brewers Association’s American Craft Beer Ambassador for Europe
Lotte Peplow is the Brewers Association’s American Craft Beer Ambassador for Europe, a role she has served since 2019. The Brewers Association is a not-for-profit trade association representing small and independent American craft brewers. Her role is to create opportunities for the international expansion of American craft beer and develop markets overseas. She also works to promote the quality and variety of beer styles produced by America’s craft brewers.
Prior to being awarded her current role, Lotte worked for the Brewers Association on an hoc basis dating back to 2006 but it wasn’t until around the mid 2010s that her passion for beer and brewing started to take off. Having always worked in the beer industry, but on the marketing/PR side,she realised that a greater level of beer education and knowledge would be beneficial and set about gaining qualifications, learning to brew and immersing herself in the world of craft beer which was growing exponentially at the time.
Qualifications and Achievements
Fast forward a few years and Lotte had gained the Certified Cicerone qualification, become an accredited Beer Sommelier and is now a respected international beer judgeat prestigious competitions around the world such as World Beer Cup, European Beer Star, Brussels Beer Challenge and more. She is also a beer writer, author, beer communicator, host of talks and tastings, event organiser and keen advocate of beer and food pairing. In August 2022 she co-authored her first book ‘World’s Greatest Beers’ published by Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in the UK. Also in 2022 Lotte was recognised by the Belgian brewer guild (Knighthood of the Brewer’s Paddle) for services to the beer industry and was knighted as an honorary member. In 2023 she was voted No 47 in Drink Retailing magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in Drinks.
Lotte’s Vision
Based in London, UK, Lotte is a firm believer that beer is for everyone and is on a mission to encourage more people to enjoy beer on more occasions.
She is also a member of the CAMRA London tasting panel and recently became a mentor as part of the Women in Beer mentorship programme to assist and empower more women to pursue careers in beer.
Why Beer
Asking Lotte to pick her favourite beer is like asking her to name a favourite child – it’s impossible! She believes the quality and creativity of American craft brewers is outstanding and the wide flavour spectrum and versatility of beer make is suitable for any palate and any occasion. However, she admits to a favourite beer style – India Pale Ale, either West Coast IPA or Hazy/juicy IPA. “Juicy, fruity, punchy hops with bold, expressive flavours make these beers stand out and it’s not surprising they’re the most popular style in America,” she adds.
Lotte intends to continue spreading the word about American craft beer throughout Europe and converting new drinkers to the wonderful world of beer. Her drive, passion and focus stand her in good stead as she relentlessly champions the beer industry one pint at a time!
