Notably, Jidvei’s Owner’s Choice Ana Sauvignon Blanc 2018 and Jidvei Fetească Regală 2009 were the sole Romanian wines to receive the Grand Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2019.
Jidvei wines originate from the Târnave Vineyard, nestled between the Târnava Mică and Târnava Mare rivers, just 50 kilometers from the historic Alba Iulia and 150 kilometers from the ancient Dacian citadel of Sarmizegetusa. This vineyard, spanning 2,500 hectares, is the largest in Romania and Europe under a single owner.
The favorable pedoclimatic conditions of the Târnave valleys contribute to the cultivation of white grape varieties like Fetească Regală, Italian Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, and more.
Climate change has allowed the introduction of black grape varieties such as Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah, used for delightful rosé and sparkling wines. The unique conditions, including autumn’s moderate temperatures and occasional fog, contribute to the millenary tradition of vine culture and the exceptional quality of Târnave wines.
