Janina Doyle #174
Art, education and passion for wine
Janina Doyle is the host of the highly acclaimed Eat Sleep Wine Repeat podcast, which has been featured in Decanter and Radio Times and has become a go-to for wine lovers and industry professionals alike. Her ability to make wine both engaging and approachable has earned her recognition as the 18th most influential person in drinks by Drinks Retailing in 2024.
Beyond podcasting, Janina holds a WSET Diploma and is dedicated to wine education and events, previously founding The Bromley Wine Society. Now, she focuses on growing her podcast and hosting personalized wine events – helping to inspire more people to feel confident about wine, explore new regions, and make meaningful connections through the world of wine.
With a background in drama and the arts, Janina discovered a deep passion for wine that has shaped her career over the past 13 years. She has held Head Sommelier positions in London, served as a Brand Ambassador for Ventisquero Wine Estates, a premium Chilean winery, and now represents the award-winning Balfour Winery in England.
Eat Sleep Wine Repeat: an inspiring wine journey
Eat Sleep Wine Repeat is a podcast all about bringing the stories behind the wines to life — blending travel, deep dives for WSET Diploma students, and relaxed, approachable topics that make wine enjoyable for everyone, from novices to seasoned enthusiasts. It’s a space to build a wine community, spark curiosity, and share the passion that makes wine so special.
Janina launched the podcast in 2022, and now in its fifth season, it continues to be fueled by her love of sharing her own wine journey while inspiring others on theirs. Nothing makes her happier than hearing that someone has discovered a new favorite grape because of an episode, or that the podcast helped them pass an exam. Wine is life, and life is wine – because wine is history, culture, people, nature, and food… all Janina’s favorite things!
Her favourite wines
What are Janina‘s most favourite wines, generally? “It’s such a tough question because my favorite wines really depend on my mood, the company, and the moment. I’m all about exploration – there’s just so much in wine to discover!” – shares Janina. Lately she’s been especially drawn to vibrant, fresh-fruited, medium-bodied wines with that beautiful volcanic mineral edge – wines like Etna Rosso and Bianco or the stunning Listán Prieto and Listán Blanco from Tenerife and La Palma.
‘‘That said, if you offer me an indigenous variety I’ve never tried before, I’m choosing that one every time!’ – comments the famous podcaster. As a matter of fact, quite recently Janina Doyle has released two podcasts about Ukrainian wines, which have become one of her latest discoveries.
This is how Janina describes her experience: “I decided to feature Ukrainian wines on my podcast because, having tasted them, I know the quality is there – they deserve to be discovered and appreciated. But beyond that, it’s about shining a light on the incredible resilience of the people behind these wines. Wine has always been more than just a drink; it’s a story of place, of people, of perseverance. And in Ukraine, every bottle is a testament to human strength, hope, and the unwavering desire to create something beautiful, even in the darkest of times. Sharing their story is not just about wine – it’s about celebrating the unbreakable spirit of humanity”.
