Family Winery SHABO #9
"Ukraine is a majestic land that produces great wines"
The SHABO team is confident in this statement. Ukrainians have the right to be proud of their country’s wine, and the company’s mission is to ensure this right. The family business of the Iukuridze family — SHABO, is based on wine traditions that are almost 2,000 years old. 1,200 hectares of vineyards and a modern technological complex are located in the south of Ukraine in the village of Shabo at the winemaking latitude of 46.6°. It was the unique terroir of this region that inspired the founders of the SHABO company to dream of creating Great Wines of Ukraine.
The Shabo region is one of the oldest Ukrainian terroirs, the history of which dates back more than 2,000 years. The location between the Dniester estuary and the Black Sea, ideal soils and climate – the uniqueness and potential of this region were appreciated by the Swiss as early as 1822. They founded a wine-making settlement here and started an era of top-level viticulture, European culture and traditions of creating quality wines.
For the SHABO company, the revival and preservation of the traditions of the historical heritage, the disclosure of the uniqueness of the wines of this terroir and the use of the best global technologies for the creation of products are fundamental.
Unique collection Iukuridze Family Wine Heritage
On December 17, 2021, on the 18th anniversary of the company, the teaser of the unique collection Iukuridze Family Wine Heritage was officially revealed to the public. It is characterized as the Great Wines of Ukraine – Only selected grapes from selected microparticles of the SHABO terroir. Exceptionally special years of harvest from vineyards whose vines are over 20 years old. Creation of the Iukuridze Family Wine Heritage was the dream of SHABO founder Vazha Iukuridze, which he had been working on since the company was founded.
Unique terroir and Telti-Kuruk autochthon
The company includes “SHABO Wine House”, “SHABO Sparkling Wine House” and “SHABO Brandy House”. Creating wine masterpieces, the company has been cooperating with world-renowned expert Stéphane Derenoncourt from France for many years.
SHABO has a unique terroir where more than 20 grape varieties are grown, applying an individual approach to each of the 10 billion grapes. Most of the varieties are from the best nurseries in France, Italy and Georgia. Even in the first years of the company’s establishment, a full and detailed analysis of the soils was made here, led by international experts and relevant institutes. A terroir map was created, on the basis of which vineyards were selected and planted on the best plots for them.
Telti-Kuruk, an autochthonous grape variety, is considered a hallmark not only of SHABO, but also of Ukraine. Nowhere else in the world is there such a native. It appeared on Ukrainian land more than 500 years ago, and SHABO, from the very foundation of the company, assumed the responsibility of preserving and multiplying it. There is a special social program for this. Today, the company has the largest plantations — more than 40 hectares of Telti-Kuruk. And the oldest fertile vines are a record 50 years old! This is an exclusive grape variety that does not change its organoleptic properties for hundreds of years. And it gives connoisseurs the opportunity to taste a special wine. The way it was before phylloxera (a plant disease), which destroyed most vineyards in Europe in the 19th century.
Created from Shabo’s terroir’s own grapes, SHABO’s wines:
- More than 500 awards from the most prestigious competitions in the world, including Decanter Wine Awards, Mundus Vini, New York IWC and others. Besides, in 2021, Ukraine won two golds for the first time at the London Decanter, thanks to Chardonnay Shabo Grande Reserve 2015 and Cabernet Shabo Grande Reserve 2017, which received 95 points out of 100.
- Exported to 20 countries.
- Takes place of honour in the most famous Wine Museum in Bordeaux – La Cité du Vin.
- Represented in the wine list of Michelin restaurants due to the exclusivity of Ukrainian terroir and varieties.
- Participated in a unique presentation of the world’s best wines at the George V Hotel in Paris.

Exclusive products include Qvevri wines made with Georgian technology (which is over 8,000 years old) and natural semi-sweet wines, which are produced in Ukraine only by SHABO.
