Cocchi #161
130 years of success and respect
The Cocchi company was founded in 1891 by a young pastry chef from Florence. At the end of the nineteenth century he moved to Asti and decided to stay here forever. According to a legend, Giulio Cocchi fell in love with the daughter of the owner of one of the bars in the city. Cocchi produces vermouths, aperitifs and Piedmont sparkling wines in full accordance with the best traditions of the Asti province. Giulio Cocchi created original recipes Barolo Chinato, Aperitivo Americano and various types of vermouth, achieving success and fame in a short time. Since the beginning of XXth century, Giulio Cocchi came up with an idea of establishing authorized retailers where people could taste his original recipes: Barolo Chinato, Aperitivo Americano, different kinds of Vermouths and sparkling wines. In 1913 there were already twelve Cocchi tasting branches in Piedmont. Some of the bars are still active under there original names. Cocchi was a very well-known brand during the Belle Epoque and on the eclectic scene of the Futurist period. The name and products of Cocchi soon became famous all over the world, as evidenced by export documents: from New York to London, from Sydney to Africa and Venezuela. Since 1978, the Asti-based company Giulio Cocchi has been owned by the Bava family, wine producers in Monferrato and Langa, who have modernized production techniques, laying the foundations for what has once again become a cult brand in the world.
Education from Cocchi
Cocchi creates unique cultural and culinary events. Since 2014, Cocchi and Fulvio Piccinino have travelled the world to spread the Futurist word via dedicated seminars (from the Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans to the Athens Bar Show, from the Bar Convent in Berlin to the Salone del Gusto in Turin). Fulvio Piccinino is one of the most important experts in the field of commodity science in Italy and an ambassador of vermouth abroad. After many years of working in a multinational brewery, he moved behind the bar counter, where his passion for studying product science and mixology was born. In October 2014, CocchiBooks released his book “La Miscelazione Futurista – The autarchic Italian response to cocktails from the 1930s” which has since been reprinted and expanded in 2016. The book retraces the history of Futurist Mixology alongside classic polibibite (the term with which the futurists rename the cocktail) recipes. Soon it became a bible for Neo-Futurist Mixologists, and was listed as one of the world 10 best books about mixed drinks in New Orleans Tales of the Cocktails 2017.
Paragon of authenticity and quality
In the heart of Piedmont’s green hills, Cocchi winery stands as a model of authenticity and quality, embodying the essence of the region through its DOC Bruts and signature DOCG wines from Asti. Employing the Metodo Italiano, Cocchi enhances the aromatic profiles of local varieties like Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Brachetto, and Moscato, creating wines that epitomize local tradition fused with viticultural excellence. These sparkling wines, whether Brut or Sweet, white or rosé, exude distinct personalities and rich aromatics, ideal for both celebratory and culinary occasions. Cocchi’s renowned ASTI, crafted in limited quantities from select Moscato grapes and reflecting the festive spirit of the “Palio di Asti,” stands out with its creamy texture, aromatic bouquet, and low-alcohol content, continuing a legacy of over a century in winemaking.
