Pioneering Advocate for Central & Eastern European Wines in South Korea and Asia

As a dedicated wine professional, he has made it his mission to bring the rich and diverse wines of Central and Eastern Europe to the South Korean, further Asian stage. As the founder and director of the Institute for Wines from Eastern Europe, he has specialized in promoting and educating others about the unique wine traditions of Moldova, Romania, Hungary, Slovenia, and Georgia – regions with deep-rooted vinicultural heritage yet often overlooked in mainstream markets. Based in South Korea, he is pioneering efforts to introduce these wines to new audiences, serving as a presenter and educator in a region where knowledge of Central and Eastern European wines remains limited. Through masterclasses, tastings, and postings on social media, he is bridging the gap between the exceptional wine producers from Eastern and Central Europe and curious wine lovers, industry professionals, and importers.

A humanities-based approach to wine

Chan Jun Park believes it is essential to approach wine not merely as an alcoholic beverage but as a cultural phenomenon. That is why he has a deep interest in exploring wine from a humanities perspective. He seeks to understand the role of wine in the lives and literary works of great wine enthusiasts such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Hermann Hesse, tracing their footsteps in pursuit of their legacy. In this journey, he defines himself as Homo Viator – a traveler in search of meaning through wine and culture.

Among the wine lectures he gives, his favorite is the one on wine and the humanities.
