Castel Mimi History

Castel Mimi is the first winery chateau of Bessarabia and one of Moldova’s most impressive architectural sites, since its establishment in the late XIX century. The chateau is named after Constantin Mimi – the last Governor of the former Moldovan tsarist guberniya and a remarkable winemaker of his time who actively contributed to the modernization of the national winemaking industry.

In 2011, the chateau underwent the most meticulous restoration process in the country’s history. Besides being modernized with last-generation equipment for grape processing and wine production, the winery was turned into a state-of-the-art tourist complex.

Castel Mimi's Venue

The venue features a fine-dining restaurant, 5-star accommodation bungalows, an open-air swimming, SPA, halls, and open-air spaces for both private and public events. Since its grand reopening in 2016, the winery has been visited by guests from over 120 countries, receiving around 50.000 tourists per year. Daily tours are organized, where visitors discover the local winemaking culture and history while enjoying traditional food paired with high-quality wines, of local production, awarded at the most important international competitions.

Significant Facts about Castel Mimi

During the year, Castel Mimi hosts several music festivals, gastronomical evenings, and thematic events among which the International Rosé Wine Day in the middle of June, the VinOpera in early September, and the Christmas Fair during the holiday season, where the visitors can arrive on a special fare known as the Wine Train.

Did you know that Castel Mimi is nicknamed the Little Versailles of Moldova, besides being included in the Top 15 most beautiful chateaux of the winemaking world?

Additionally, for one day, on the 1st of June 2023, Castel Mimi became the center of Europe, as the European Political Community Summit has been held here, thus becoming the first winery in the world to host 50 leaders and heads of state at once.
