Balkans International Wine Competition #191
Balkans International Wine Competition 2025: A New Chapter in Naoussa
The Balkans International Wine Competition (BIWC) returns for its 14th edition, reaffirming its status as the premier wine competition in the region. From May 28-30, 2025, Naoussa, Greece – a historic winemaking hub – will host the competition under the auspices of the Municipality of the Heroic City of Naoussa. This new location highlights BIWC’s commitment to showcasing the deep-rooted wine heritage of the Balkans while setting the stage for a broader international presence.
Each year, BIWC provides an unparalleled platform for wineries, bringing together a panel of top international wine experts who assess and celebrate the diversity and excellence of Balkan wines.
Expanding Horizons with the First BIWC Conference
For the first time, BIWC introduces an exclusive international wine conference under the theme “Balkan Wine 2040 – Vision & Perspective.” Taking place on May 31, 2025, the conference will explore key topics shaping the region’s winemaking future over the next 15 years. Renowned winemakers, marketers, business leaders, and sommeliers will lead discussions on climate change, the balance between indigenous and international grape varieties, wine tourism development, and strategies for Balkan wines to secure a stronger global market position. The conference marks a new milestone for BIWC, further cementing its role as a driver of innovation and collaboration in the industry.
A Judging Panel of Global Experts
At the heart of BIWC is its distinguished jury, comprising world-class wine professionals, Masters of Wine, sommeliers, and industry leaders. Their expertise ensures a rigorous, transparent, and professional evaluation process, where the best wines from the Balkans receive international recognition. The competition has served as a launchpad for many award-winning wines, with previous medalists achieving great success in global markets.
This year, BIWC continues to attract a growing number of international judges, further solidifying its status as a highly respected competition beyond the Balkans.
Celebrating the Balkan Wine Community
BIWC is more than just a competition – it is a celebration of Balkan winemaking, a networking hub, and a bridge connecting regional producers with the global industry. The event will include exclusive masterclasses, winery presentations, and opportunities for producers to showcase their wines to an audience of buyers, distributors, and wine enthusiasts.
With an increasing number of wineries participating each year, BIWC has become a key event for discovering new wines, fostering industry connections, and elevating the region’s reputation as one of the world’s most exciting wine destinations.
