Association of Craft Winemakers of the Black Sea Region #128
The Black Sea Region in Ukraine: Where Steppe Meets the Sea
The public association “Association of Craft Winemakers of the Black Sea Region” represents the south of Ukraine – a unique wine territory where the endless steppe opens like an ocean, and vineyards stretch across slopes along rivers, estuaries, and the Black Sea coast.
This is a land shaped by light, wind, and water. The terroir is defined by a mild climate, maritime influence, and diverse geology. Sandy soils, red clays, mineral-rich loams, and gravel deposits provide natural drainage and contribute to wines with distinct structure, clarity, and a true sense of place.
United by Terroir and Craft
The association brings together independent craft and author winemakers from the Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Odesa regions – producers who share a commitment to authenticity and terroir-driven expression.
Among its key members:
Steppe Wines (Mykolaiv region) – a craft winery interpreting the raw beauty of the steppe through natural, author-style wines.
Beykush Winery (Mykolaiv region) – vineyards located on estuary slopes, where water, wind, and mineral soils create vibrant, balanced wines.
Falko Winery (Mykolaiv region) – a coastal project focused on expressing the character of the Black Sea terroir.
Babchuk Winery (Mykolaiv region) – a family-owned winery with an authorial approach and deep respect for the surrounding landscape.
Author winemakers of the Kherson region – experimental producers working with varieties and natural methods that reflect the spirit of the open steppe.
Frumushika-Nova (Odesa region) – a Bessarabian project combining wine culture, regional landscape, and gastronomy.
Together, they represent a new generation of southern Ukrainian winemaking.
Sustainability and Respect for Nature
Black Sea winemakers work in harmony with their environment. Biodiversity preservation, minimal soil intervention, and sustainable or organic viticulture practices are fundamental principles.
Steppe grasses, groves, and native flora surrounding the vineyards form a living ecosystem that directly influences vine health and wine character. Nature is not a backdrop here – it is a partner.
Beyond Wine: A Destination of Open Horizons
The Association is not only about wine production – it is also about wine tourism. Visiting the Black Sea region means traveling to the edge of open horizons, discovering landscapes where steppe meets water, and experiencing wines born from resilience and craftsmanship.
Each bottle is a reflection of the steppe wind, the estuary light, and the dedication of people who cultivate vines at the frontier of land and sea.
