The sponsor of the Wine Travel Awards (WTA) – La Cité du Vin, announces one of major events of 2022: Pablo Picasso Exhibition.

Bordeaux Wine Museum La Cité du Vin, which acted as a sponsor and partner of the Wine Travel Awards (WTA), as well as its CEO Philippe Massol, who was one of the judges at the Wine Travel Awards, announces the grand event of 2022: ‘Picasso, the effervescence of shapes’, a large exhibition dedicated to Pablo Picasso, one of the most important artists of the 20th century.

The exhibition, which will take place from April 15 to August 28, is addressing the issue of wine and spirits in Picasso’s works through paintings, drawings, ceramics, films, and more.

Historian and art critic Stéphane Guégan was invited to curate the exhibition. He is the author of several books about painting and literature of the 19th and 20th centuries, from French Romanticism to Picasso, to whom Guégan dedicated several of his works. Stéphane Guégan has already curated some famous exhibitions such as Le modèle noir de Géricault à Matisse, Toulouse-Lautrec, and others.

More than eighty works will be exhibited at ‘Picasso, the effervescence of shapes’, particularly due to the contributions from Musée Picasso in Paris and the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.

“Due to the participation of French and Spanish museums as well as private collectors, we can offer a completely unique exhibition. ‘Picasso, the effervescence of shapes’ demonstrates the abundance of references to wine and spirits in the works of Pablo Picasso and shows the extraordinary creative nature of its creator, which cannot be reduced only to one style”, – Marion Eybert, manager of specialized exhibitions at Cité du Vin, says…

The images of cafes and drinking people, variations of glasses and bottles during the period of Cubism, vivid, sometimes dramatic memories saturated with Catholicism or Greco-Roman mythology, which are collected in one place – all this, according to the organizers, makes this exhibition unique. The project pays tribute to the artist’s demiurgeous nature, and variety of the author’s visual arts: painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, etc. The photographs of Picasso and chronological clues are guiding the visitors, revealing key moments in the artist’s career.

At ‘Picasso, the effervescence of shapes’, Cité du Vin continues to implement its environment-friendly design initiative by re-using the exhibition interiors from Atelier Maciej Fiszer, set and exhibit designer with a vast experience in sustainable development.
